Joep Pelt: Guitar Globetrotter
Joep Pelt is a real guitar globetrotter. Musically raised on the muddy banks of the Mississippi and the Niger by artists like R. L. Burnside and Ali Farka Touré, Joep regularly takes out into the world in search for new musical ingredients. Over the years, Joep initiated several musical collaborations with artists from the most diverse genres genres. Joep’s eclectic guitar playing invariably serves as a bridge between different musical worlds.
Recently Joep produced the Soweto Soul project, a tribute to the musical soul of the South African townships, for which he collaborated with local music legends. Joep’s “Show Me The Way”was co-produced by hip-hop producer A.R.T. (Typhoon, Fakkelteitgroep). Also Joep recently debuted in Dutch theaters with his solo performance “From Mali to Mississippi,”in which he tells the definitive story of the blues through travelling stories and acoustic songs. Joep also produced and played a series of sold-out theater concerts with the legendary dialect group Carboon, in which Limburg’s mining history is portraid.
Joep previously achieved a successful collaboration with the Malian guitar legend Lobi Traore with whom he toured extensively throughout Europe, Africa and the US Joep regularly combines his music projects with making documentaries for radio or television, musical lectures and workshops.
Joep’s adventurous spirit and insatiable thirst for music make him one of the most versatile artists of the Netherlands. Whether it’s solo concerts with intimate acoustic songs or exuberant dance music with his swinging band, no action by Joep is the same. I Yougoba! (2008)
Collaboration with Malian guitarist/vocalist Lobi Traoré, the Bambara-bluesman. This album was recorded in Bamako, Mali. The project would eventually tour through The Netherlands (e.g. North Sea, Oerol, Mundial) and the US (SXSW, New York, Chicago).
